My Development so far

Recently I learn how to climb up boxes by myself. I also learn how to climb up and down stairs with the help of Daddy or Mommy. And I can walk a lot faster now...to the point of running. I can recognize words such as my bao bao (a.k.a. bean pillow), Dad-dad (Daddy), Mimi (Mommy), nan nan (milk milk) and bear bear (my teddy bears). And everybody (I really mean everybody) thinks that I look a lot like Daddy hahaha.

Hehe I feel so much taller now!

Woah! Dangerous...

New Hairstyle

Even though summer is ending soon, but I still perspire sometimes especially during the afternoon. My hair has been growing pretty long, so last weekend, Mommy decided to trim my hair short while Daddy held me down. She used a pair of scissors and snipped my hair in layers about 1 inch less all around. I did not move a lot coz I was still dazed from my afternoon nap during that time.

So how? Stylo or not?

Before After

Daddy and Mommy thinks I look more like a little boy now than a baby. Hehe...

12 Mths Immunization and Blood Check

Today I went to the PD to get my 12 mths old vaccinations as well as a wellness check. The check went about as usual with the nurse measuring my height, weight and head circumference.

Then Dr Lo came into the exam room and chatted with Daddy and Mommy about my recent development, skills and diet. All went well. My height and weight is considered normal for Asian boys. I weigh 20.12lbs (9.05kg) and I'm 30.75 inches (78.1cm) tall.

Later, the nurse came into the room to give me some Tylenol for the vaccinations later on, just in case I develop a fever or something. The medicine was red in color and tasted quite yucky. I still prefer the grape flavor we have at home hehe...

Daddy sat me on his lap and the nurse used a needle to poke my left index finger. Then I saw a small red dot coming out from that poke. It was my blood. Then she dropped a tiny bit of the blood onto a piece of test paper, to which she stuck that into a small digital device that is supposed to read the level of iron in my blood to test for anemia. Hmm....so far so good. The nurse gave my reading as 12.5 which is normal. After which she dressed the wound with a spiderman bandage. It looked wierd on my finger haha.

Next came the 2 main injections. I didn't know how painful it was until the needle poked into my left arm and she pushed the liquid in from the syringe. I cried out loud immediately. It was really painful and Mommy could see that the area of injection popped up almost in an instant. Then the nurse applied something on a cotton wool and dabbed it on the injection site and dressed it with a round piece of plaster.

I thought that was the end of it....but NO! Daddy flipped me to the other side and held my t-shirt sleeves up. The nurse came to me with another similar syringe and poked into my other arm. AR!!! I cried even louder this time. Why must we kids go through all these?

As a brave boy that I am, after the bandages were in place, I stopped crying. Mommy dried my tears with a towel. While we were at the reception counter making payment, Dr Lin gave me a small rubber ducky to play with. It was kind of funny looking coz it was wearing a green hat and a compass that tells the direction. After thanking the nurse, we left the clinic. What a day.

Zoo outing

Today is Friday. Daddy took a day off from work and brought us to the San Diego zoo. This zoo is pretty well-known in the region and they have pandas there. All 3 of us have not been there before, so we looked forward to it.

It was a one-hour drive from home. Daddy put on his cruise control mode and his favorite mp3s while on the 5 Freeway. I doodled a bit on my new magnetic drawing board and shortly after I fell asleep throughout the whole journey hehe.

Doodling

When we reached there, many visitors were also going towards the zoo's direction. Then, suddenly Mommy remembered that she forgot to pack my rice cereal into the bag. Uh oh...what am I supposed to eat for my lunch later?

We headed for the Children's Zoo first. There was a fenced area where there are many different types of sheeps and goats. We can actually go in to pet them. I did not have any experience being around animals, so I was a bit afraid when I see them roaming freely. They look huge in my opinion. When I saw one sheep walking towards me, I got a little scared and wanted to run. After that, we remembered to wash our hands before moving on. This is to ensure that we do not carry any germs from the animals home.

Run Ryan Run!

Luckily I'm bigger now and can start to take food such as mac and cheese. The eateries there sell this as part of the kids' meal, so Daddy bought one set for me. Inside the kids' meal came a packet of Lay's chips, a packet of animal crackers, a pack of apple juice, a small box of raisins, a bowl of mac and cheese, a tumbler with a cap and straw and a small bucket to contain these items. Mommy figured we could keep the bucket to bring to a beach next time when I'm old enough to build sandcastle. I loved the mac and cheese, apple juice and the animal crackers. But too bad, I could not take the Lay's chips yet. I also tried some of the raisins. While I'm enjoying my kids' meal, Daddy and Mommy shared a cheeseburger and chips meal with a large cup of Coke. Daddy then chided Mommy for being blur. That's when they realized that she forgot my Go and Grow milk powder too. Haha...no choice then, I'll have to eat biscuits as snacks later on.

Giving Mommy a 不爽 look

After lunch, we started out on the Monkey Trail to watch the monkeys and baboons. Then we continued on to the flamingo pond. The flamingoes had pink feathers and super thin legs that seemed to want to snap anytime. There were lots of them and all of them were busy drinking water. Then all of a sudden, all of them held up their long necks and started walking towards the same direction. Some visitors next to us went "Wow!". We took some photographs and proceed on to see the tiger, okapi, hippo and the parrots. We also watched the bears, lions, sun bears, pandas, pigs, vulture, zebras, polar bear. The most popular of them all had to be the pandas. Whenever we passed by, we could see long queues waiting outside to get in to the enclosure. Next is the polar bear. When the bear appeared, everybody rushed to get a glimpse of him to get pictures and video. Me? I was still feeling dazed after waking up from my afternoon nap hahaha.

We also visited a few of the zoo souvenir shops. My favorite has got to be the Panda shop. You can find lots of panda themed souvenirs there. I loved the panda soft toys there but we did not buy any in the end. Daddy and Mommy thinks that I will bite the panda instead of playing with the toy. Hmmph angry. Mommy liked one red panda mug. It had a cute cartoon panda on it.

Playing with panda soft toy

We took a break in between and sat down to watch a puppet show put up by a lady called Mrs B. There were song and dance and she also called in 2 of her assistants to sing and dance with her. There was also a panda mascot too. In the last song, they called upon the kids in the audience to join them in front. I was still too young so did not join them. In fact, I wasn't really interested in the show, I was more than happy standing in and rocking my chair hahaha...

Mrs B Song and Dance Show

In the later part of the trip, we visited the other part of the zoo that has elephants, giraffes, camels, kangaroo, wombat and koala bears. Most of the animals were sleeping during the day, so it was a waste not to be able to see them in action. Plus, some of the animals such as the giraffes and the kangaroos were quite small in size. Mommy thought that those in the Singapore zoo were bigger.

Even though there were several 'hiccups' during this trip, and we perspired and got sun burnt and were really tired, we still had fun nevertheless. When I grow older next time, I may just visit the San Diego Zoo again. By then, I should be able to appreciate the trip better.

Birthday Boi

Happy 1st Birthday to....myself! Yeah!

On this special day, Daddy and Mommy brought me to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Daddy ordered their Steak Diane and Mommy ordered a beer battered fish and chips. They also bought a slice of Oreo cheesecake to celebrate when we reached home. Why is there only 1 slice? It's because there are only 2 of them who eat and I can only take small bites of the cake ;P

Now that I'm no longer a small baby, I want to try lots of things. My 1st birthday wishes? I want to do things such as climb here and there, run, ride bikes, learn to swim, learn to feed myself using spoon and fork, learn to drink milk from a sippy cup instead of a bottle, learn to read, learn to write, learn to talk and sing. Wow..there are so many exciting new things to try. And of course, I also want to grow up healthy and strong hehe.

Throwing Tantrums

When Mommy or Daddy takes away anything that I am biting from me or something that they consider is dangerous, or when Mommy don't let me play with her camera, I will get angry.

This is how I will react.

Yogurt Baby

Mommy and Daddy got me some YoBaby yogurt to try. This one's Banana and Vanilla flavor and tastes quite yummy. Most importantly, it's pretty nutritious....as I have discovered from the packaging (haha, as if I understand!)

Reading the nutrition label.

Putting my hand in the yogurt cup.
