A Walk In The Park

Today is a warm, sunny Sunday again. After my afternoon nap, Daddy and Mommy brought me to the Altisima park nearby. There was a field with some school kids playing baseball. We sat there and watched for about 15 minutes. Even though I do not understand the game, but I still enjoyed watching the kids running around and hitting the ball with their bats.

However, the day was hot and I felt really sleepy whenever I had to squint my eyes from the sun hehehe....

We had a short walk around the park with Daddy and Mommy taking turns to push my stroller. Then we stopped at a Tot Lot to play at the swings and the slides.

Daddy put me on his lap and he sat in the swing. The swinging motion made me sleepy...*yawn*



Then he carried me to the top of a short slide and down I went. Wee!

Now you see it, now you don't

Weather's turning really hot these days. So Daddy and Mommy trimmed my hair on the sides and back and the fringe part yesterday. Hmm...when will my fringe grow longer again? :P

By the way, did you notice my crib bumper is now tied on the railing instead? That's to prevent my itchy mouth from gnawing on the railing. Haha...

Hives, hives, go away....

On Tuesday morning, Mommy drove me to the pediatric allergist clinic at Medical Center Rd. Was the first time that she drove alone in the US with me in tow. I slept throughout the journey coz I was alone at the back car seat and nobody played with me.

My rashes weren't so serious anymore even though I had stopped taking Benadryl for the past 72 hours or so.

My folks suspected that the rashes could be due to the milk formula or the rice cereal that I take. The tins and boxes were placed on top of the fridge. Daddy thought that the heat from the fridge could have caused the contents to go bad. Quite true enough, when I took the milk or cereal, the rashes appeared. But if I stopped and changed to another type of milk or cereal, my condition improved. Besides these, other suspects were the injection that I took recently (this one was quite obvious for triggering the hives), my polyester blanket, dust mites, heat or cold.

The allergist was Dr Sugar (funny last name). He's a tall be-spectacled middle aged man. Mommy explained my condition to him and what I am taking currently. Dr Sugar decided to do a food allergy test to determine if I am allergic to any kinds of food. A nurse came in a couple of minutes later with a set of the food test allergen. They were contained in small vials with needles on them. Some of the food that we tested were milk, oats and avocado. According to the nurse, these are the usual ones that doctors used for testing food allergies. She asked Mommy to remove my top. Then she rubbed some alcohol on my back and poked the whole set of 18 needles onto my back! WAAH!!!! I burst out crying immediately. This is like injection times 18. We were told to keep our hands off my back for 15 min. During the wait, Mommy had to pacify me by reading a story book that she found in a box in the room. But as usual, I don't like to sit still for long at one place, so I kept fidgeting and wanting to crawl here and there.

After 15min, the nurse came back into the room again and noted the results on a sheet of paper on her clipboard. Turns out that I am positive on all the allergens?! What's that supposed to mean? Am I allergic to all of those food? What can I eat then? Hmm...Mommy started to get worried.

Dr Sugar came in like 45 min later to assess my results. He said that I could be having dermatographism.

Sounds cheem leh...and a little too extreme. I think mine will go away after some time.

Dr said to continue my current milk, food and the items that I am using now and prescribed Zyrtec anti-histamine to be taken at quarter of a teaspoon (or 1cc) everyday for 2 weeks at 12 hrs interval. We are going for another follow-up checkup the week after.

After taking the medicine for the first time, I felt much better and the rashes were completely gone...at least there is no huge scary rashes on my skin now :)

I'm 9 months old today

Hehe...I'm getting closer to my 1 year old birthday.

I should be happier right? Hmm..not really. My folks are still trying to find out what's the allergen that's causing my hives. Even though I am recovering from them through the use of Benadryl but if I stopped it for a while, the spots will come back. Will be seeing a specialist next Monday and hope we can find out something.

My target for this month is to eat more, grow more and hope to learn how to walk. Also to learn how to wave goodbye and say 'Papa' and 'Mama' :)

This Sunday's gonna be Mother's Day. And it's the first time that Mommy is eligible to celebrate it. Same goes to Aunt Rachel, Grand-aunt Cherie and Aunt Xiuyun...coz they are all first time moms who gave birth this/last year. Hmm..who else...oh yes...also have to wish Happy Mother's Day to my 2 grandmothers in Singapore hehe...

A Visit to the Doctor's

Today I went to Dr Lo's for a wellness check as well as to do my 9 mth old immunization (5 more days before I turn 9 mths). After the nurse checked my height and head circumference, Daddy helped me to undress so that I can get onto the digital weighing scale. I'm now 18.11 pounds (8.21kg) heavy and 29 inches (73.66cm) tall. Doctor said that I am quite tall for my age keke...but I am also a little underweight. Gotta eat more...

I also got a shot on my thigh for pneumoccocal. Ouch...I cried for a while when the nurse poked the needle in hehe...Mommy thought that I was a brave boy and did not cry for long. Here's a pix of the cartoon plaster on my thigh after the jab:



We also consult the doc for my rashes. According to him, this is probably hives. Oooh...sounds serious. Doc prescribed some Benadryl for the allergy. The cause for it is still not clear at this moment. Daddy and Mommy will try to narrow it down from now on. They will have to take note of what I eat everyday and if there's anything new introduced to me, for example, new food item, new toy, what I touched, etc. Anything could be possible. Initial suspicions are either the swimming pool chemicals or the fish that I ate recently. Hmm...meanwhile we just have to take the appropriate medication and observe.
